You're almost ready to launch your website and the excitement grows you upload and then reality strikes! Now you can have a web presence with how many millions of others? How will they find you? There are numerous ways to get a higher rank on search engines, some are free and some are not. Since everyone likes the free stuff lets talk about what can be added to your website that will influence a higher rank at no additional cost to you. This type of search engine influence is called organic. The first type of an organic influence to a higher search engine rank is to have your website developer set up meta tags on all of your web pages. Meta tags are found in the html scripting of your pages and are invisible to the naked eye when viewing the site. At a minimum, a company description meta tag should be added to each of your web pages. Another type of meta tag is key words. I would recommend a maximum of seven key word meta tags for each web page. Key word meta tags are words that one may use in a search engine to find a product or service offered by your company on that particular web page. Also include key words not only as tags but in your page titles, descriptions headings and content.
Exchange links include links to your site and have your suppliers link their site to yours. Get your name out there! Read and participate in popular forums that match your sites focus or interest. Build a quality site. Sites with more pages attract more attention, more traffic, more referrals and in the end, obtain a higher rank. Update your site frequently. You don't need major changes every week or two but just updating your content slightly will refresh search engine crawlers and influence a higher rank. Your audience will also grow influencing more sales if you provide useful beneficial information. Another beauty of the web is coupons, specials and sales on line. The website won't eliminate the need for printed company brochures but it can work as a very useful tool for the information that changes frequently. Anyone that has ever had a company brochure printed knows the expenses and commitment involved. The next step is to suggest your site to the search engines. When you suggest your site to a search engine, you are placing their crawler on your site so when a user is looking for something you offer, and a match exists, you will influence the possibility of getting a higher rank. When you are searching for a product or service through a search engine, the one at the top usually has sponsored link written beside it. Sponsored links are paid for programs offered by major search engines. My past experience with the programs have served well however, the rules, features and terms change frequently so you will need to make or have your website developer work this regularly. |
